That is to say a bit of the common is misplaced or rather superceded by images projected in advertisements, television culture, as if such thoughts were the only people to place there.

though nothing is lost some would say.

“tonight I finish my education and tomorrow I start my recovery” –quote from asshole at stumptown coffee shop talking on his cell phone to his ex-wife’s sister.

“yeah I was up skiing at mt. bachelor after I got back from flying out to new york and Cleveland. oh I just had to clear my head… yeah well I talked to my lawyer today about visitation rights… try to come to some
conclusion about debts and assets… oh I just couldn’t talk to her.. it was the first time I hung up the phone in disgust”

(cell phones allow the public display of one’s life to an immediate audience, public becomes private, i.e. reality t.v., internet blogs, etc.)

“I’m calling him Tuesday and asking him to take me off the anti-depressant drugs. its been six months and I want off. its partially my decision. they don’t know the long term side effects of the stuff’”

he starts talking toner cartridges and printer heads.

“could you please keep it down in here, sir. I’m trying to work in here.”

I don’t get out much so when I do its like a revelation.

In an age where two musics play simultaneously,
a primitive tool is a handheld device used to store
messages,
time to count our potatoes and bags of grain,
dna down to the pixels of the screen,
the panties you wear in your fashion magazines,
how to blindside consumers with industry trends,
such long-legged blondes
posing in front of the 2005's,
its like praying for rain,

dont you know this is our year to take the championship,

welcome to the front of the line,

i see here on your application that you used to dabble in
internet porn
and snort cocaine,
good thats all behind you,
well welcome to our organization,
i want to hire you here right on the spot,
ive already emailed

bringing in the backhoe and building shelters made of old tires and mud,
the time is telling us to conserve yet we burn,

two dollars a gallon gets you quite a ride,
in the love of electricity, in-door plumbing,
suv's driving downtown,
sunsets over the palm trees,

here,
have more popcorn,
wait til you see what happens next,
ive seen this movie three times already,
and its still a shock,

the realization that poets are just here to entertain,
thoughts being the shape of patterns one can surmise,
the lilies of the place,
panning back from their embrace,
the expanse of the desert and of space,
the protests are of no consequence,
time to call in the national guard,
they need their eggs and ham,
we have the one-up,

whos side are you on anyways?
cant you see youre just talking to yourself,
dont you know you cheapen yourself with that funny bullshit shtick,
thats not what poetrys made of,

the way they switch the reels from projector one to projector two half-way through
the broken glass of the parking lot,
unaware of many things,

well these are your actors,
and this is your budget,
we would like to see it on screen
by november of 2007,
