RANDOM CHANCES

theres not much to say that the core can not conquer.
unfurl your checkered tablecloths onto the lawn and bring out your picnics.
here is a place we have never been before.
a celestial promise cracks open like a breakfast egg.
dusk unknots its kimono belt and allows the stars to shine.
the sun is an ever-lasting orgasm in the mid-day sky.
maybe one day like in some coke commercial I’ll teach the world to sing.
this is a practice of how to stack cans in a pyramid without making them fall.
whatever comes next is better than what preceded it.
the green tea has cooled sufficiently enough to gulp.

ions

Find the fine line
between
mind and sign
and milk it **

the face on Mars looks a lot like Andy Warhol’s

best bet vs. worst case scenario + Hollywood adaptation of Joyce’s “Finnegan’s Wake” =

Quality Assurance tester

(biologically active in updated versions 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3,
a glandular response in regards to stimuli introduced)

such curls and gnarls
such cuts and reductions
placed upon the level playing field

orbits
a dream of cubes vs. spheres
accepted and/or rejected by grace in the textbook

you who do not know anything
or you who has skipped over pages to find yourself here
or that has never stopped to contemplate the pixels that compose
the whole of the screen
i applaud you for placing your comfort above your quest for knowledge
knowing knowledge is a scam
and that he who has the biggest and best toys when he dies
wins

line spacing has nothing to do with meaning yet thats why its art
dirt defines light
sqaure root seller militarizes fleas
i'm so fucking high without you

why not start off hungry?
why not be at least a little bit sad?
\\\\ default error comprising the parking lot grocery list,
wet cardboard sign face down on asphalt streets,
king of the laser beam,
let’s hear another blonde joke,
makes bees worth their weight in gold,
hurry, hurry,
I can have whatever I want whenever I want it,
the smell of the gorillas at the Oregon zoo

how does one become homeless?
ex-wife masturbates after watching a particularly steamy episode of Sex in the City,
white bishop takes black rook,
puts the frozen dinner in the microwave,
laughs at the endless columns spelling “chemtrails”,
balances a copy of Lewis Thomas’ “Lives of a Cell” on his head like William Tell

“who needs actions when you got words?”

oh let’s not get any more drunk than that,
west coast vs. east coast in a strip tease,

CEO bitches out the vice president of operations in front of the stockholders again

you who take for granted the ink these words are printed with,
you who know nothing of how far it is from Stockholm to Berlin
everyone who thinks the third world is like some channel three,
I congratulate you for putting your blinders on
and not letting the war and famine of the rest of world
keep you from getting your pool cleaned

the best of all possible worlds

here at the surface of these plasma screens

“be:, and what does that mean,
here at the surface of these plasma screens,
reaching out as one does into the stream,
professor pauses in his recollection of what it means
to be aware;
to be well dressed and well groomed,
and it dawns on you, its television culture,
the mixed wooden pawns slung over the shareholders shoulder in a fifty pound sack,
striving for a mask to fill,
humming a tune,
new icon appears on yer desktop.

what life is any greater than this life we’re living now,
the numbered ping-pong balls drop into the blower box,
two lovers meet in a coffee shop in southern Baghdad,
it was Rip Van Winkle who fell asleep in the wood.

he’s listening to you now,
realizes the action happening behind him on the green screen,
it’s a commercial for the common cause,
for even common causes must have commercials now.

like the worth of grain against the worth of oil again,
to have that conversation with the figure head,
its hard work then,
only in leisure then,
or only in work then.

oh great single seed,
you are my hero,
you are my “two plus two equals four” as something more,
its funny how sometimes someone comes along and plants you.

a handfull of gravel thrown at a baseball to change its trajectory

At a time anything could be poetry, hip urban fashion magazines divert the youthful eye from the beauty of the thrashing limbs, leaves spelling:

“grow your own, sew your own, be your own”.

see: tree hugger.
compare and contrast against: 2nd shift Boise/Cascade mill worker. you decide. run to the well with your papers and signs.

That is to say a bit of the common is misplaced or rather superceded by images projected in advertisements, television culture, as if such thoughts were the only people to place there.

though nothing is lost some would say.

“tonight I finish my education and tomorrow I start my recovery” –quote from asshole at stumptown coffee shop talking on his cell phone to his ex-wife’s sister.

“yeah I was up skiing at mt. bachelor after I got back from flying out to new york and Cleveland. oh I just had to clear my head… yeah well I talked to my lawyer today about visitation rights… try to come to some
conclusion about debts and assets… oh I just couldn’t talk to her.. it was the first time I hung up the phone in disgust”

(cell phones allow the public display of one’s life to an immediate audience, public becomes private, i.e. reality t.v., internet blogs, etc.)

“I’m calling him Tuesday and asking him to take me off the anti-depressant drugs. its been six months and I want off. its partially my decision. they don’t know the long term side effects of the stuff’”

he starts talking toner cartridges and printer heads.

“could you please keep it down in here, sir. I’m trying to work in here.”

“yeah, no- the last washing machine caught on fire”

and I cant help from listening, he’s nine feet from where I’m sitting.

Old schoolin with the college-ruled notebook and the paxil retractable pen.

I don’t get out much so when I do its like a revelation.

In an age where two musics play simultaneously,
a primitive tool is a handheld device used to store
messages,
time to count our potatoes and bags of grain,
dna down to the pixels of the screen,
the panties you wear in your fashion magazines,
how to blindside consumers with industry trends,
such long-legged blondes
posing in front of the 2005's,
its like praying for rain,

dont you know this is our year to take the championship,
coach says he really believes,

welcome to the front of the line,
you've earned it,

i see here on your application that you used to dabble in
internet porn
and snort cocaine,
good thats all behind you,
well welcome to our organization,
i want to hire you here right on the spot,
ive already emailed
your prospectus directly to the president

bringing in the backhoe and building shelters made of old tires and mud,
the time is telling us to conserve yet we burn,

two dollars a gallon gets you quite a ride,
in the love of electricity, in-door plumbing,
suv's driving downtown,
sunsets over the palm trees,

here,
have more popcorn,
wait til you see what happens next,
ive seen this movie three times already,
and its still a shock,

the realization that poets are just here to entertain,
thoughts being the shape of patterns one can surmise,
the lilies of the place,
panning back from their embrace,
the expanse of the desert and of space,
the protests are of no consequence,
time to call in the national guard,
they need their eggs and ham,
we have the one-up,

whos side are you on anyways?
cant you see youre just talking to yourself,
dont you know you cheapen yourself with that funny bullshit shtick,
thats not what poetrys made of,

the way they switch the reels from projector one to projector two half-way through
the broken glass of the parking lot,
unaware of many things,

well these are your actors,
and this is your budget,
we would like to see it on screen
by november of 2007,

are you up to it?

miniature columns storage retrieval heat death jester
expanding space a knowledge base machine to punch holes
streaked meteors map of the universe the next dimension
crystals encased run of the place emerges like a mole

blank spaces fill asteroid mining
discoveries unknown volcanic rift
